Tough new look, more safety gear and mechanical tweaks for Nissan’s popular ute
A comprehensive update for the Nissan Navara has made its global debut in Melbourne ahead of sales commencing early next year.
Set to bring Nissan’s all-important ute up to date alongside a slew of new or upgraded rivals – including the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50 and Isuzu D-MAX – the latest overhaul for the D23-series Nissan Navara concentrates on styling, practicality and safety, with some important mechanical tweaks thrown in.
The latter includes work on the steering and suspension, and strengthening the rear axle to boost payload, while the headline news on safety is the addition of autonomous emergency braking (AEB) among a suite of advanced driver assist technology.
At the top of the range – at least until the Warrior returns, which is also now confirmed – is a PRO-4X dual-cab model that epitomises the tough, appealing new look for 2021 Nissan Navara.
But by 2021, though, the game has moved on – with all-new models of Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50 and heavily updated Toyota Hilux to deal with, this new Navara has its work cut out.
New Navara is very similar to the D23 released back in 2014. The Navara retains its four-wheel coil suspension as the main point of difference between it and other competitors like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max.
Rounding out the range is the new and angry-looking Pro-4X grade which takes the reins from the N-Trek variant. Outside, the Navara communicates Nissan’s ‘unbreakable’ design language with an all-new fascia pushed furthest by the Pro-4X’s aggressive blacked-out grille. There are new LED signatures, and the Navara looks much more menacing than before with its broad stance.
